Sumish is a multidisciplinary collective uniting visual art, live music, and spoken word in immersive, real-time performance dialogues. Its name, derived from the Ukrainian word суміш ("mixture"), reflects the convergence of artistic disciplines, languages, memories, and lived experiences.
Weaving music, storytelling, singing, drawing, and video, Sumish creates evocative landscapes shaped by exile, migration, and displacement, exploring plural identities, traces of once inhabited places, and new forms of belonging.
At the intersection of the personal and the collective, Sumish gives voice to memory in motion, creating a space where borders become permeable, narratives intertwine, and new imaginaries emerge.
The collective includes Hanna Arkipchuk, a Ukrainian-Canadian-Portuguese musician, Alex Reznik, a multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto; and Eugenia Reznik, a Ukrainian-French-Canadian visual artist. It collaborates with other artists and musicians across places and cultures.
